What is Different in Windows 10?

Windows 10 is a classic operating system that combines the best of Windows XP and Windows 7. It also takes on the best of Windows 8.

Intuitive Start Menu

You will benefit most from the definitive look of Windows 10 when it comes to the start menu. It makes users who have used prior versions of Windows operating systems to feel at home. The start button works just like for older versions and also makes use of Windows 8 tiles.

In addition, the tiles are adjustable and can easily be customized. The start menu is also able to relay personalized information. It is intuitive and provides search results as soon as you begin typing. It further locates information in the local machine and on the internet.

Uncluttered Screen for Better Multitasking

Windows 10 makes multi-tasking easy through eliminating the domination that apps had on the screen. It uses apps from the Windows Store and can run several virtual desktops. It is inviting to work with. Furthermore, the Windows Store has a number of useful applications and is useful to all users.

Usability

Microsoft’s Windows 10 combines the tiled look of Windows 8 and the classic desktop of earlier versions providing you the convenience of both. It is both functional and easy to use. It is easy to switch between the two interfaces while displaying information and program launch.

In addition, you can pin application or move them to the menu. It is the ideal OS for both touch and conventional desktop functions. It enhances the user experience, and makes use of similar apps on the computers as it does on the phone. Its functionality is also uniform across devices and environments.

Multiple desktops and task view

Just like Linux and Mac OS X, Windows 10 explores the use of multiple desktops. It makes it easy to add new desktops or remove them as you please. You can also have programs open in these desktop environments.

It further has a task view that spreads-out all your running applications and processes. It is therefore easy to shift from one active program to another. It even has a better command prompt.

Bottom Line

Windows 10 is focused on a heightened user experience. It is a welcoming layout and looks familiar for users of Windows XP and 7. It is also appealing to everyone from basic users to technology enthusiasts and others.

If you need any help installing Windows 10, you can bring your computer to computer repair boca raton to get help right away.

How To Utilize The Windows Event Log

Ever heard of the Windows Event Log? In most cases, everyday computer users have not heard of this tool that Microsoft provides in all of its operating systems. This utility tends to be only used by computer technicians or others who work in computer related fields.

The main reason the Windows Event Log is an under-used tool by general computer users is because it can seem too complex to use and understand. It also seems that about 90% of all events logged are either informational or serve no purpose at all.

Having said this, there are some very good ways to utilize the Windows Event Log. It can be very good at giving hints or clues for the cause of many computer problems. There are also some other tools out there that one can utilize to help decipher the event log easier.

Let me give you a quick lesson on how to access the windows event log, what kinds of events you should be looking for and ways you can further decipher events that have been logged.

The following instructions will be for those working with Windows 7.

How To Access The Windows Event Log

There are several ways you can actually access the logs, but I am going to show you the way I do it.

1. Go to your Start menu
2. Put your cursor in the ‘Search Programs and Files‘ box
3. Type eventvwr and hit the Enter key and the Event Viewer window will popup

Windows 7 introduces a little bit of an overhaul on the overall look of the event viewer. Out of all the changes, I can see one that actually may be useful.

Let me show you exactly what I mean.

The event viewer opens to an ‘overview’ screen when first loaded. In this initial screen, there is a window call the Summary of Administrative Events window that shows an overview of the latest type of events that have been logged.

TIP: The only two types of events you need to be concerned with are those marked as Errors or Warnings.

How To View The Windows Event Log

Now that you have the actual event viewer open, let me show you how to actually view the logs.

1. Locate the left pane in the Event Viewer window
2. Click the arrow next to Windows Logs to expand them

At this point we are only concerned about the Application and System logs. The System log takes precedence over application in my opinion.

3. Highlight System and the right or middle pane will show you the events that have been logged starting with the latest first.
4. Highlight a particular log to see more details on that specific entry

What You Should Really Be Looking For In The Windows Event Log

There are three important pieces of information you need to be looking at when looking at logs and they are as follows:

1. Level – Informational, Warning or Error
2. Source – Application that logged the event
3. Event ID – Identification number of the event

Tip: If you are not looking for a specific error, but may be investigating an issue with your computer then you should first look at the logs marked with a level of Error first.

Real Life Example: Using the event log is a great way to diagnose a bad hard drive. If a person is experiencing symptoms of a bad hard drive such as a sudden slow-down with their computer, then a super-quick way to do some initial diagnosis is to check the event log.

If you check the system log and see an entry with the level of Error and a source of Disk, then it is a safe bet that the hard drive in that particular machine is starting to fail.

Let Some Other Tools Help You

Unless you have worked extensively with monitoring event logs and researching why certain events are logged, then most of the time entries are going to be hard to understand.

Fortunately, there are a few online tools out there that you can use to help you understand why events are logged and what you can do to fix them.

The website I like to use most is located over at EventID.net. This website does have a paid membership section, but in most cases I can get all of the information I need by just using the free access.

When you go to EventID.net, there will be two boxes where you need to put information in. You will need to put in the Source and EventID then just click search.

The results may return several entries, but just find the one that fits your issue best and then click the link at the bottom of the box to see what others have to say about diagnosing and fixing this particular issue.

After you do this a time or two, you will get the hang of how to use the website. Overall, it is a pretty easy process.

In conclusion, I hope that if you have never heard or used the Windows Event Log that this post prompt you to check it out and learn how to use it. As you use it and learn what you should be looking for, you can quickly diagnose computer problems in a much quicker fashion.

I recommend that you start using the Windows Event Log today.

Best Anti Spyware And Adware To Increase PC Speed

Finding the best anti spyware and adware to increase PC speed and keep your computer safe can be an involved process. Knowing what to look for is crucial, because there are some software options that don’t provide sufficient protection.

The best anti spyware and adware programs should be updated regularly. There are thousands of companies and individuals who make spyware. New spyware and adware comes out every day, and as such, protective software needs to be updated on a regular basis to adapt to all the new methods that spyware creators use to get past a computer’s defenses.

Spyware makers are experts at hiding their programs on computers and making them nearly impossible to notice. To overcome this, regularly updated software is an absolute necessity. Anti spyware and adware programs should be made within the last several months, and ideally, they should update automatically every few weeks or so. A regular update schedule is a good first thing to check when evaluating the offerings of an anti spyware and adware program.

The best anti spyware and adware to increase PC speed should also be to identify and processes that are taking up an unusual amount of CPU. This can be an indication of spyware or other malicious software, so it’s one of the key indications that many protective programs use to keep a computer safe. By eliminating spyware that takes up a great amount of a computer’s CPU, an anti-spyware program ensures a faster and more reliable PC.

Good anti adware programs will perform a scan on a PC and note any programs, active or inactive, that aren’t what they say they are or which have been identified as spyware or malicious software. These scans can take some time, as the anti-spyware program will have to compare each file to a database, but they’re well worthwhile as they’re an effective means of stopping spyware early on.

Regularly using the scan function of a good anti spyware and adware program can prevent these programs from sending personal information about the computer user. Scans also stop adware from getting the chance to start slowing down a computer and eliminate malicious software that may already be contributing to computer slowdown issues.

In addition to regularly scheduled scans, some anti spyware programs also scan new, unrecognized files the first time that they run. This can be an effective way to weed out spyware programs before they have a chance to take hold in a computer user’s system and cause slowdown.

Finding the best anti spyware and adware to increase PC speed can mean the difference between a slow, security-compromised computer and a fast, safe machine. Every computer user should use an anti spyware and adware program on a regular basis to help avoid malicious programs and to keep a computer operating as well as the day it was purchased.

7 Most Effective And Realistic Ways To Speed Up Your Computer

To be quite honest with all of you, there is a lot of ‘crap’ on the internet when it comes to providing some really great tips and suggestions that will really help to increase the speed of a computer.

What I have decided to do was to ‘cut through all the crap’ and give you some real suggestions that really do work. So how do I know these work? Well, I have been working on computers just about every day of my life for the past 12 years or so. I don’t claim to know it all, but I have learned a few things over the years.

Let me know what you think by leaving a comment after you have read this post.

1. Clean Startup Items

Optimizing your computers startup items is the number one way to instantly increase the speed and performance of your computer. It does not matter how new or how old your computer is, when you turn off programs that do not need to run when your computer starts up directly results in a faster, higher performing computer.

Windows does provide a utility called MSCONFIG that will allow you to turn on or turn off windows startup items, but this tool can be very tedious and it is not very user friendly.

For those of you who are comfortable working with your computer, there is another utility out there called WhatsInStartup that I have found very helpful. It is programmed by a gentleman named Nir Sofer who runs his own website over at nirsoft.com. WhatsInStartup is a small app that will list all of the items in your startup and allow you to disable, delete or enable them. It also has a cool built-in search Google feature. This is great to use if you are not sure what the startup item exactly is.

For those of you who would rather have a piece of software do this for you, then I would only recommend one piece of software and that is SpeedUpMyPC which is developed by Uniblue. Their programs are all Microsoft Gold Certified.

2. Reboot

How many days has it been since you have rebooted your computer? It seems that when you ask computer users to reboot that they must think you’re asking for their right arm. Reboot your computer once a week and you will notice a boost in performance.

3. Defrag Hard Drive

In my opinion, this is one of the more controversial ways to help increase your computers performance. However, I do think that if done regularly that you will get better long-term computer performance. Windows Vista and Windows 7 users really don’t need to worry about running a disk defrag. The operating systems are set by default to defrag once a week. For those of you on Windows XP, I recommend you run a defrag at least once a month.

4. Run Disk Cleanup

Perhaps one of the biggest reasons for Windows slowing down over time is just the clutter of files that takes place. Do your part and run the Disk Cleanup utility once a month. However often you decide to run this utility is really up to you, but just try to do it on a regular basis.
Do not forget to empty your Recycle Bin!

5. Virtual Memory

For most every-day computer users, there is really no need to ever have to worry about adjusting the virtual memory on your computer. However, for those of you who are into gaming, video editing or use some other type of ‘heavy-duty’ software, it may be a good idea to manually set the Virtual Memory on your computer so windows doesn’t take advantage of it. Just be sure to set the maximum size to no more than 1.5 times the amount of RAM that is in your computer.

6. Scan for Malware

In most cases, if your machine gets infected with any type of malware you will notice a huge change in performance or your machine will become un-usable. In most cases a computer becomes infected from a website that has been infected itself and set to infect any computer that visits it. I have seen it where perfectly legitimate websites have really put a number on a computer because they have been infected.
In my opinion, Malwarebytes is the best free utility available to get rid of malware. The combination of a System Restore and a scan with Malwarebytes will get rid of 99% of all malware related infections.

7. Install More RAM

Installing more RAM in your computer ranks in the top 3 as far as having an immediate effect on your computers performance. If you have an older XP machine, then make sure it has 4GB of RAM in it. If your machine is newer or you are shopping for a new computer, then I would recommend no less than 8GB. RAM is the most inexpensive hardware component that you can buy for your computer that will have the most impact on its performance. You will notice a huge difference when you are multi-tasking because your computer will be able to hand more programs being open at the same time.

Windows System32 Error Messages – Learn How To Fix These Errors

For anyone who owns a computer that has one of the Microsoft operating systems on it, there is a very good chance that your computer has gotten windows system32 error messages before. The reference to system32 basically means that this error has something to do directly with the system files of your computer.

Windows System32 Error Messages could be caused by a wide variety of different sources, but most of the time, these type of errors could be contributed to:

Sudden power outage

Bad hard drive

Infection of Spyware or Virus

Corrupt system or driver files

Let’s take a look at each of these instances and I’ll give some tips on what you can do to fix these windows system32 error messages.

Sudden Power Outage: Most home computer users do not have their computers prepared for a sudden power outage. At most, they may have their computer plugged into a power strip. Personally, I have a little APC battery backup unit that works wonderfully.

One of the hardest things on a computer and in particular a computer hard drive is a sudden loss of power causing the computer to instantly shut down. Now some computer techs might tell you that your hardware components are at high risk when a sudden loss of power occurs. My take is a bit different. In my years as a computer tech, I have come across very few instances where a sudden loss of power causes a hardware component to fail. However, I have seen instances where a power surge has caused damage to a computers power supply or motherboard.

When a computer shuts off instantly the biggest thing at risk is the data on your hard drive. Specifically your operating system files. There have been many times when I have had to work on a computer that is getting windows system32 error messages because the computer was shutdown unexpectedly.

When Hard Drives Begin To Fail, They Can Cause Windows System32 Error Messages

Bad Hard Drive: A failing hard drive can definitely be a cause for windows system32 error messages. It is a pretty rare occurrence to have a hard drive fail completely with no symptoms ever being shown. When this does happen, it is mostly cause by a failure of the actual hard drive hardware.

One of the most obvious symptoms of a hard drive that is going bad is if your computer all of a sudden seems tremendously slow. Let me be clear in stating that you will see a huge decrease in your computer’s speed. So it may take minutes rather than seconds to open a program or file, and your computer startup time will take much longer than normal as well.

The first thing I do when I encounter a computer that has these symptoms is to check the event logs on that particular computer and check the system log for Disk errors. If I see Disk errors, then I proceed to run more extensive diagnostics on the hard drive.

Infection of Spyware or Virus: With spyware and viruses becoming hard to detect and more powerful in nature, these programs are another source for windows system32 error messages. It seems that no matter how many layers of protection you have on your computer, this software still seems to find its way on to your computer. If your computer becomes infected with one of these programs, there could easily be files that would be either deleted or corrupted that would cause system32 errors.

In a lot of cases, unless you are an experienced computer professional, the best way to rid yourself of these problems is to do a complete rebuild on your computer. If this is the case then you have to worry about making sure all of your data is backed up and that all other important information is backed up.

In the end, spyware or viruses causing windows system32 error messages happens at a lower percentage than the other causes I am discussing here.

Malware Can Also Be The Cause Of Windows System32 Error Messages

Corrupt System or Driver Files: This is probably the biggest culprit for causing windows system32 error messages. A corrupt file could be the result of so many things, but in the end most corrupt files can be corrected by using some different techniques.

A system file could become corrupt as a result of a certain windows update that didn’t install properly, or maybe there are a few bad sectors on your hard drive that have caused that file to become corrupt. The same goes with a corrupt driver file. In most cases, a driver file becomes corrupt because of some other update that has been installed.

There are three main methods I would use at trying to correct windows system32 error messages being cause by a corrupt file.

First, you could always try running a Windows Repair on your computer. By running a windows repair, you are replacing all of the system files on your computer back to their original versions without actually losing any of your personal data.

Second, would be to run a check disk on your hard drive. If a file becomes corrupt due to a bad sector or two on your hard drive, you can run a check disk to correct these errors. Check disk is a very power tool that windows has built in. I have run this tool on hard drives that are inaccessible and after it is done running I could then access the file system on that hard drive.

In conclusion, there are two methods or techniques you should become familiar with and comfortable using. The first is running an operating system repair. This can be a lifesaver and can most certainly make it so that you don’t have to format your hard drive and start all over again. The second, is learn how to use the windows Check Disk utility. This can be access by right-clicking on your C: drive and access the Tools tab. This is a very power yet pretty safe utility that will fix any number of disk errors.

I hope these tips that I use to help fix my PC will help you in your quest to fix any windows system32 error messages you may be getting or will get in the future.

Want To Increase Laptop Speed – Read Here For Tips And Advice

Laptops are a great tool but almost everyone who uses one is always looking for a way to increase laptop speed. I would like to give you my take on why laptops may perform slow than a desktop computer and how you can go about making sure you are getting the most out of your laptop.

One thing I notice is that people often times want to get a laptop because of the ‘cool’ factor. They think it would be cool just to have a laptop. This next statement I am going to make is a bit bold, but I think it is always true. Only buy a laptop out of necessity. Buy a laptop because you are going to be traveling or if you need to be mobile in any way. I would always prefer a desktop computer over a laptop for a computer that is going to be stationary. Performance will always be better on the desktop computer.

How To Increase Laptop Speed Can Be A Complex Question To Answer

Laptops are often made and manufactured with one thought in mind and that is the size of the laptop. Because components inside laptops are made smaller, they are inferior to the components of a desktop computer. A good example is a laptop hard drive. Most laptops come with a hard drive that runs at 5400 RPMs. The new standard for a desktop hard drive is at least 10,000 RPMs. This proves my theory.

Now on to how to increase laptop speed. If you have a laptop and it does not have the maximum amount of RAM it will support, then I would recommend maxing it out. If you feel brave and have the budget, you may want to think about getting a faster hard drive for your laptop as well. Or, if your thinking of buying a laptop, I would recommend getting one with a 7400 RPM hard drive.

Increase Speed Of Laptop By Getting The Right Hardware Combination

A laptop should only have the programs installed that you absolutely need. So many times I see these high-end games being installed on laptops that are not made for them at all. If you want a laptop for gaming, then spec on out and pay the 2 or 3 thousand dollars you will need to spend in order to have a high end gaming laptop. In my opinion, this would be pointless in most situations. You could build a monster gaming desktop computer for much less.

To be quite blunt, you could go about tweaking all of your programs and your laptop settings, but it may not increase laptop speed too much in the end. In the end, I think laptop hardware has much more clout when it comes to the speed of a laptop. If you get one that doesn’t have the right combination of hardware then you are going to be on a constant up hill battle.

Be sure to do your homework when buying a laptop. See what others are saying about the laptop and if they have had to do anything to increase laptop speed on the model you may be looking at.

Tips On How I Speed Up My PC Windows XP

Over the past 8 or 10 years, I have been trying to find ways to speed up my PC while running Windows XP. In this post, I want to give some valuable tips on what you can do to get the most out of that computer that is still running Windows XP.

When XP came out, I new that it had some great promise over the previous operating systems, but initially it had quite a few security flaws. After Microsoft addressed the security flaws by implementing things such as the Windows Firewall then XP pretty much took over both the personal and business computer world.

With the recent release of Windows 7 and it’s gaining popularity, Windows XP is slowly being phased out both in home and work computer environments. In my opinion, Windows 7 is the best operating system release MS has ever launched. Straight out of the box, it seems to look nicer, run faster and be more secure than any other OS they have ever put out.

It is a pretty safe bet that if you have a computer running Windows XP that it is probably at least a few years old. Your PC may be reaching that tipping point where after a few years of use things are really starting to slow down on it. You may see symptoms like the following:

The computer startup time is slower than it has ever been

Programs take longer to open

The more programs you have open, the slower your PC is

Virtual memory errors

As I have said many times before, no matter what you do to your computer, it is going to slow down over time. The best thing you can do is to slow down the process of your computer slowing down.

One thing you need to realize is that when you want to speed up my Windows XP PC is that it is not going to handle many of the new programs or games that are coming on the market these days. So the lesson to be learned here is that you need to use your Windows XP computer for operations that you know it can handle. If you have the budget to buy a new computer then you could relegate your XP computer to be just a basic internet and Office application computer.

If you don’t think you are going to be able to buy a new computer in the next few years, then you may want to see about doing some minor upgrades to your Windows XP computer to help speed it up. If your in this position, I would highly recommend that your computer have no less than 4GB of RAM in it. You can find RAM upgrades on the internet at very reasonable prices. Just shop for a good deal.

Something else you may want to consider if your computer’s XP operating system has been in use for 2 or 3 years is to backup your data and perform a fresh installation of XP. I will guarantee that this will really help speed up your Windows XP Pro PC. As a rule of thumb, I perform a fresh install of my OS at least once every 2 years.

In conclusion, if you have a computer that is still running Windows XP and it seems to be performing pretty well for you, then by all means, keep it until it dies. As long as you can find a use for it in some capacity there is no need to get rid of it.

I hope that some of my tips on how I speed up my PC Windows XP will help you get the best performance out of your Windows XP computer.

Speed Up My PC – The Down-Falls Of Being The Computer Geek

I am constantly trying to find new ways to speed up my PC. Everything you do on a computer affects its speed one way or the other.

Having been a computer technician for over 15 years allows me to really dig deep and try different things out and then see how those changes help to speed up my PC. For me, this is fun to do and I have ways of being able to rollback each change I make in case it doesn’t work as planned.

The speed of your computer can be direct result of two things: hardware or software. A general rule of thumb is that you should just replace any computer that is more than 4 years old. The amount of money you would put in to upgrading the hardware on that machine would put you well on your way to buying a new computer.

Another tip I have that I use to speed up my PC is that about every 2 years I reformat the hard drive and perform a fresh install of the Operating System. I do this after making sure all of my personal data is backed up of course.

The major problem at being able to speed up my PC is that there are always other people asking me to help make their computers faster as well. Being the dedicated ‘computer guy’ is fun at first, but it does tend to wear off over the years.

So How Do I Help Other People Speed Up Their Computer? Answer: Speed Up My PC

Over the years I have tried and tested a lot of the software on the market that claims to do the best job of speeding up computers. Well, the truth of the matter is, is that most of these pieces of software suck. Most of them tend to actually end up doing more harm than good. You especially have to watch out for those ‘registry cleaners’. These programs can be very harmful to your computer if you do not use them carefully.

That being said, there is a piece of software that I regularly to recommend to all of my family and friends. It is called Speed Up My PC. It is developed and supported by the popular Uniblue. They are a Microsoft Gold Certified partner and have been for over the past four years. This is not an easy certification to attain, so you know they know their stuff.

Speed Up My PC is super easy to use. Its interface consists of easy to read menus and buttons. It also does a great job of making sure the user knows if their computer needs a tune up or not. Speed Up My PC is also customizable. If there are certain tweaks you do not want it to perform, then all you need to do is make the necessary settings changes.

I give Speed Up My PC the highest recommendation out of all the other computer software on the market today. Although there are a few others that do a good job, Speed Up My PC is the most effective and best supported software available today.

Speed Up My Computer – Methods Often Overlooked

Since this is my first real post with some of those ‘insider secrets’ on how to speed up my computer, I thought I would just try to keep it basic with a few simple yet very effective things you can do to really help make your computer faster.

I have learned over the past 15 years that it is often the simplest answers that are overlooked. The same goes for someone trying to find ways to speed up my computer. So do I have you thinking yet? What do you think the simplest thing you can do to speed up my computer is? Well, if you guessed rebooting your computer, then you are correct!

You Don’t Need To Pay A Professional To Speed Up My Computer

I’ll admit, I go months without rebooting my computer. However, I have gotten into the habit of rebooting once a week and because of this, I do see increases in performance. Rebooting your computer helps to speed up my computer because it allows the RAM (Random Access Memory) to be cleared and gives your programs a fresh start. RAM is where just about every program that runs on your computer sits while it is running. That is why RAM is a real key to the performance of your PC and the ability of your computer to multitask.

Increasing Your Computer’s RAM Will Speed Up My Computer

Another really simple way you can speed up my computer is by freeing up hard drive space. I am well aware that most new computers come with at a minimum of 300 gig hard drives, but that doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t be doing some file maintenance. I also know that if you buy a Dell or HP computer that they come with at least 20 programs on them that you will never use or even open. The first thing I would recommend you do is to just go into your Add/Remove programs and start removing all of those programs you never use. These programs not only take up space, but they might also have items that run in the background when your computer is started. Having this removed will definitely help speed up my computer.

Disk Defragmenter Will Help To Speed Up My Computer

Anytime you free or delete a bunch of files on your computer, I would recommend that you run the Windows Disk Defragmenter program. In my opinion, this tool is a bit over-rated when it comes to really helping speed up my computer, but it is a critical tool to use because it keeps your hard drive organized. You can access Disk Defragmenter by going to:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

You may want to run this utility right before you go to bed or right before you are going to be away from your computer for a while. It can sometimes take a while to run.

Although we are only scratching the surface in this article, I have given you a few basic things you can start doing right away that will really help to speed up my computer.
